This week we are featuring our awesome ambassador, Thalia, from NYC! Thalia has been on our team since 2016 and she always writes some of the most thoughtful and creative encouragement cards. We are so very honored to have her on our team! Read on below to find out what her favorite things are in NYC, and why she found inspiration in a legendary 90s grunge-star's quote...
What is your favorite thing about living in your city/what do you do there (hobby/job/or just something you love doing in your town)?
I live in the city that never sleeps! Well, next to the city that never sleeps. I live on Long Island, New York. And my favorite thing is being half an hour away from New York City. Don’t get me wrong, Long Island has its hidden gems but the city can be magical. The adventure opportunities are endless! As an artist and creative person I feel like the city is THE place. Whether it’s the street art, architecture or the city’s fashion, walking down the avenues is always inspiring. A few things I enjoy doing there are visiting the art museums, walking around the parks and finding cool places to sip a cup of coffee.
Do you have any hobbies?
I’m passionate about a few things. I love creating, and that’s really a broad term because I love creating so many things. I scrapbook, I love decorating, and I own a design business in which I design journals, home décor and other things by hand. I’m also a photographer, I love documenting memories and stories. And last but not least, I love going on adventures! Whether it’s to try a new food spot or visit a botanical garden, I’m up for it!
What's your favorite quote?
“Thank you for the tragedy. I need it for my art.”― Kurt Cobain
I hold this quote dear to my heart. There are just so many things that happen in life and I don’t know about you but I’ve had some really rough patches. And if it wasn’t for art, I honestly don’t know where I’d be. Being creative is an outlet for me. Art understands and listens to me when others can’t. So when the storm comes and leaves me wrecked, whether sadness, anger or confusion, I use the energy to create.
What is your favorite season?
Fall is my absolute favorite season. I wish it were fall all the time in NY. There’s so much I love about it. First off the weather is perfect, not too hot and not too cold! And then the style…I love layers! I feel like my outfits look best in the fall. I’m a mock neck sweater + ankle boot kinda girl so fall is perfect for me. It’s also a very beautiful season; I mean take a look at the colors of the leaves on the trees. Reds, oranges, greens and yellows…Gorgeous! And I don’t know if anyone else notices, but the air is always so crisp in the fall and the early morning scent is lovely.
What is your most favorite thing about humanity?
I think what I most admire about humans is our ability to encourage one another. It’s truly beautiful when we set aside our own things to help a friend out, or even a complete stranger. To be able to give encouraging words or even just quality time is something so simple and selfless to do.
